Unlike traditional media sites, though, Kitces.com deliberately generates no revenue from advertising or sponsored content. Instead, we remain solely focused on creating value directly for our readers, strengthening the awareness of and integrity of the Kitces brand, and being compensated directly from our readers both on our site (for those who join our Members Section, hire us to speak and consult, or purchase Kitces Research), and through our co-owned financial services solutions for consumers (who may engage with our related financial advisory firms) as well as our business solutions for financial advisors themselves (for whom we have a number of businesses providing service and technology solutions for advisory firms).

 

Kitces.com is hiring a People & Culture Manager (part-time) to be responsible for the engagement and well-being of the Kitces Team! This starts with connecting with the virtual team in an authentic way that creates an environment in which people are excited to participate in Kitces events and initiatives. Additionally includes running the hiring process to support ensuring the right people are hired for the right seats, followed by an onboarding experience that sets a new team member up for success and makes them feel part of their new Team. The People & Culture Manager will ensure that all Kitces team members have the tools and resources they need to work effectively and be responsible for training on the main software systems and social norms of Kitces. This role will develop and maintain social programming which includes everything from low-key weekly lunch bunches to being an active member of the retreat planning committee. The People & Culture Manager will keep the Team up to date on what’s happening at Kitces by maintaining the company intranet, otherwise known as the NerdNet!

Description/Responsibilities

This entirely virtually-based staff position will report to the Managing Director and will have the opportunity to interact with everyone in the company.

The People & Culture Manager will have the following core areas of functional responsibility:

Primary responsibilities:

Culture Keeper:

• Be a champion of culture within the organization, communicating the Kitces’ identity, purpose, and values.
• Maintain the robust hiring process and supports the Managing Director to ensure we get the Right People in the Right Seats
• Responsible for onboarding new employees (from initial hardware/software setup an introduction to The Kitces Way to helping to make new team members feel part of their department team as well as the Kitces Team at large) and offboarding exiting employees
• Responsible for retention and engagement programs, including running the social committee
• Responsible for being an active member of the Retreat Planning Committee for bi-annual in-person retreats
• Functions as the Team expert on recognition and appreciation and is available to assist Directors in the execution of surprise and delight initiatives

Resource Management:

• Responsible for the curation and delivery of internal team training and development on core Kitces systems
• Responsible for Team usage of their PTO and employee benefits
• Responsible for the maintenance of and engagement with the internal intranet system, which is housed in SharePoint
• Responsible for employee resource management, including provisioning of hardware and software tools
• Update organizational policies and procedures on a regular basis, including the employee handbook.
• Responsible for ensuring all performance reviews are completed, paperwork is signed, and filed appropriately.
• Management of the Team page and Career Opportunities page on the Kitces website
• Responsible for compiling all data reports for People Operations

 

Special Projects coming up:

• Curate out of the box trainings on Kitces core software systems and then manage the process by which Team members are kept up to date
• Collaborate to develop and then implement a social media strategy that showcases what it’s like to work at Kitces.com
• Set-up of a formalized HRIS system

 

Secondary responsibilities:

– Cross-train with other team members as needed to cover PTO

Key Candidate Traits

The ideal candidate should be self-motivated enough to work in a virtual environment with limited supervision (autonomous), have an extremely strong inclination for continuous learning (self-development), an immaculate attention to detail (organized and efficient), a service mindset (seeks to collaborate and to help and support others), and an ability to work in a changing environment (adaptability).

Key domains of required expertise include:

• Proficient communicating with others and exchange information accurately and effectively
• Ability to run the administrative part of a hiring process
• Ability to develop and run activities and events that promote Team engagement
• Ability to inspire people to participate in all areas of the company including optional activities and utilization of their employee benefits
• Must be a people person who has experience creating personal connections with a fully remote Team
• Moderate proficiency in SharePoint – ability to build and maintain SharePoint sites
• Moderate proficiency in Excel – ability to use mid-level formulas such as SUMIFs
• Must be able to follow a process (our hiring process is pretty good!)

Candidates must be legally authorized and available to work primarily within the United States.

Candidates must be able to work at a computer for up to 8 hours a day and travel to attend two in-person retreats per year.

Hours are expected to range from 15-25 hours/week. Hours and days committed will be set collaboratively with the Manager. While a regular schedule will be expected to create continuity with the team, Kitces offers a great deal of flexibility.

 

Compensation/Benefits
– $28 – $35/hour depending on skills and experience

As a company we try to front load meetings to the beginning of the week so that the end of the week can be more focused on Deep Work to maximize our personal productivity.

While, as a remote company, we tend to attract a lot of introverts, we also recognize the value in creating work relationships, so we have a social committee that creatively offers a multitude of ways for people to connect in the ways they feel most comfortable.
